Charging-site commissioning: what a handover should prove

A charger powering on is not the same as an operational station. Acceptance should reflect real use and fault conditions.

THE ENGINEERING QUESTION

A charger powering on is not the same as an operational station. Acceptance should reflect real use and fault conditions.

01

Electrical readiness

Local qualified personnel confirm installation, protection, earthing, insulation and applicable inspections before energized testing.

02

Operational scenarios

Test representative vehicle types, simultaneous sessions, access methods, billing data and peak-load limits. Repeat tests under the expected operating schedule, not only in a quiet workshop.

03

Handover record

Deliver as-built documents, test results, account roles, operating instructions, contact path, warranty and unresolved punch-list items with owners and dates.

04

Project application

Opening day failures often occur outside the charger itself: the wrong user role, a failed payment callback, weak connectivity, a vehicle mismatch or a site limit not tested under concurrent load. An acceptance test that only proves one successful session leaves these paths unexamined. Use a staged protocol: qualified electrical checks; device and network configuration; representative vehicle sessions; simultaneous and peak-load tests; failed payment, disconnect and emergency-stop recovery; operator training. Define pass criteria and evidence before testing begins.

OUTPUT

What this decision should produce.

  • The handover pack contains test records, as-built files, account roles, alarm escalation, spare-parts contact and an open-issue register. Each unresolved item needs an owner and closure date; otherwise operation begins with invisible debt.

YOUR QUESTIONS, ANSWERED

Clarity before
commitment.

Practical answers about Charging-site commissioning: what a handover should prove. No guesswork.

Ask about your project

3 questions

01Who signs off the site?

The contract should identify the customer, local qualified parties and any utility or authority approvals.

02Is one successful charge enough for acceptance?

No. Test representative vehicles, concurrent load and failure recovery against written criteria.

03Should payment be part of commissioning?

Yes, when payment is in scope: test successful, failed and refund or reversal journeys.
