Why EV dealerships need a charging plan

A dealership charger supports demonstration drives, delivery, service and visitors. The right mix depends on how each vehicle uses the site.

A dealership charger supports demonstration drives, delivery, service and visitors. The right mix depends on how each vehicle uses the site.

The practical questionHow can one site support test drives, delivery, service and visitors?
01

Map the four journeys

Test-drive cars need to be ready at the appointment time. Delivery vehicles may need a verified state of charge before handover. Service bays need predictable turnaround, while customer parking has a different dwell time and payment expectation. Combining them into one undifferentiated queue creates friction.

02

Choose AC and DC by dwell time

Long-stay inventory and employee parking may suit AC charging, while demonstration, service or rapid handover may justify DC. Charger rating alone does not predict useful energy: vehicle acceptance, arrival state of charge, available time and site capacity all matter.

03

Define access and ownership

Separate staff, workshop, visitors and public users in the access policy. Decide who pays for which session, who responds to a failed start and who keeps chargers available during opening hours. If payment is required, select and test the local provider before opening.

04

Make the investment measurable

Track vehicle readiness, session success, energy delivered and bay utilization. A charger may improve service quality, but sales uplift should not be asserted without evidence. Start with operational outcomes the dealership can verify.

YOUR QUESTIONS, ANSWERED

Clarity before
commitment.

Practical answers about Why EV dealerships need a charging plan. No guesswork.

Ask about your project

3 questions

01Does every dealership need DC charging?

No. Use dwell time, vehicle throughput, power availability and service tasks to compare AC and DC.

02How should access be separated?

Define distinct staff, workshop, delivery, visitor and public user groups.

03Will chargers automatically increase vehicle sales?

No such result should be promised without measured evidence; track service and operational outcomes first.
