OCPP integration: an acceptance checklist for operators

A supported protocol version is a starting point, not proof that every operation works end to end.

THE ENGINEERING QUESTION

A supported protocol version is a starting point, not proof that every operation works end to end.

01

Declare the exact profile

List protocol version, transport, security settings, firmware and required functions. A declared protocol version does not define every implemented feature; details vary by device and backend.

02

Test the user journey

Verify registration or authorization, remote or local start, charging state, metering, stop, payment handoff and error recovery across the actual charger and software release.

03

Keep an evidence log

Record test case, device serial number, firmware, backend version, result and unresolved deviations. Retest after material firmware or platform updates.

04

Project application

For third-party chargers, verify every function the operation needs: remote start, metering, tariffs, firmware updates and diagnostics. Test payment and customer-support workflows with the actual charger–platform combination. Build test cases against the exact OCPP version and enabled profiles. Include first connection, authorization success/failure, start/stop, meter values, fault events, offline recovery and security configuration. Keep payload samples and version numbers so a later software update can be regression-tested.

OUTPUT

What this decision should produce.

  • The deliverable is a function-by-function integration matrix recording supported workflows, conditions and test results.

YOUR QUESTIONS, ANSWERED

Clarity before
commitment.

Practical answers about OCPP integration: an acceptance checklist for operators. No guesswork.

Ask about your project

3 questions

01Is OCPP support equivalent to certification?

No. Ask for the exact certification status and test the contracted functions.

02Can a connected charger still fail a paid session?

Yes. Authorization, metering and payment handoff may fail even when the device is online.

03What must be retested after firmware changes?

At minimum, the business functions and fault-recovery paths affected by that version change.
